Art Historian / Curator
Barbara Matilsky (PhD Art History, New York University) curates exhibitions that address the intersection of art and natural science and its relationship to environmental issues. At the Queens Museum, she organized Fragile Ecologies: Contemporary Artists' Interpretations and Solutions (1992), which toured the US with the Smithsonian Institution. In 2013, Matilsky curated Vanishing Ice: Alpine and Polar Landscapes in Art, 1775-2012, an international traveling exhibition that examined the art history of glaciers within the context of climate change. In 2018, Endangered Species: Artists on the Front Line of Biodiversity traced the cultural legacy of artist’s engagement with nature conservation.
