Dictators are experiencing a renewed role in American political discourse as President Trump publicly engages with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, attempts to disengage with the Assad regime in Syria and openly challenges Maduro in Venezuela. Meanwhile, the governments of global powers China and Russia have taken steps toward more authoritarian rule.
